Athens-Clarke County has become what is known as a “food desert,” or an area where access to healthy food is inaccessible, of poor quality, or overly expensive. Some local farmers markets are making special efforts to give low-income families access to locally grown food. The Athens Federation of Neighborhoods sponsored an interactive forum for community members to discuss how families can get access to this food, as well as information as to where it came from.
