It is St. Patrick’s Day in Athens and downtown is a glow with green shamrocks, green beer, and green shirts. 

Bars like The Globe and The Foundry decided they really wanted to get in on the fun. The Globe channeled their St. Patty’s spirt by adding cornbeef and cabbage to the menu along with a classic green Guinness beer. According to The Globe bartender Dane Beardsley, the scene midday has been quiet.

“It’s pretty calm now but as people start getting off work it will really start ramping up in here.”

Th Foundry bar is hosting its tenth annual St. Patrick’s Day celebration. They have special performances scheduled including Irish Dancer from the Athens Drake School of Irish Dancers.

While these are just two of the bars downtown celebrating St. Party’s today, the holiday cheer is hard to miss no matter where you are in Athens.
