Local football fans rejoice! Downtown Athens has added a new bar packed with beer, wings, and sports to its diverse repertoire of restaurants: The Office. 

While the title may seem confusing, patrons know exactly what they are getting into once they “clock-in” and see TVs covering almost every inch of the walls showing nothing but sports all day.

Or maybe it is the giant ticker (video) above the bar letting everyone in the room know the scores, times, and even league leaders.

Located on the west end of Washington St., The Office’s second location opened up on September 24 following the success of the original that started in Columbus, Ga a few years ago.

“It’s the experience of a tailgate inside of a bar,” says Sierra Engle, a member of the staff.

On game days, The Office is packed with raucous football fanatics zoned in on the day’s action especially when the Bulldogs are on. After Georgia’s big win over conference rival Tennessee, the atmosphere inside the bar was electric as the final seconds ticked away.

Members of the Athens community, especially students, have been clamoring for a new sports bar to open up downtown.

“I think Athens needed a place like this to watch sports,” said Georgia student Matt Danielak while sitting at the bar watching the Duke-Michigan St. basketball game.

“It could definitely make it big if it does it right.”

With a menu ranging from hamburgers and chicken wings to steak and pasta, The Office caters to all sorts of taste and preferences while providing a fun environment to cheer on everyone’s favorite teams.

From the diversity to the menu to the different styles of entertainment, The Office does a lot to differentiate itself from your normal sports bar. The Office likes to offer special live music performance on nights where the games might not be as captivating to the local audience.
