Corey Knapp
Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, the city and its sports teams are near and dear to my heart right along with the Georgia Bulldogs, despite the adverse effects they may have on it. My interest in becoming a sports broadcaster began when I was a youngster watching the Braves play and listening to Skip Caray and Pete van Wieren call their games and then watching Stuart Scott and John Anderson have a ball anchoring SportsCenter afterward. Then and now still I think to myself that these jobs have to be among the coolest in the world aside from actually playing professionally. You could find me playing sports inside the house or outside in the street and doing my own play-by-play.
Sports also created the primary avenue through which I bond with my mom, who, at the time of my birth in 1995, probably could not have named the manager of the Atlanta Braves. But after spending the better part of a dozen years driving me all over the Southeast United States to basketball and soccer games and countless baseball tournaments, she is probably the person with whom I talk the most sports. She now knows that Sundays are for both Catholic Mass and Falcons football one right after the other. And when a Georgia team inevitably breaks my heart, she’s right there to tell me its time will come and everything will be okay… eventually.
I fill my non-sports quota with quality music and television, almost all from my DVR because commercials are brutal. Watching and listening to artists at the top of their craft entertain the masses with their content and delivery provides a goal for me to strive for even in a different profession. Boy Meets World, How I Met Your Mother, Modern Family, America’s Got Talent, and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon are among my many TV favorites, and I love listening to Kendrick Lamar, Imagine Dragons, and Maroon 5, among plenty of others.
I enjoy having time to myself in addition to hanging out with my extended family and small but very close group of friends. Faith, positivity, and a great smile are attributes that I do my best to bring to the table every single day because with sports, health, and family, life is pretty great.
